Professor Amit Bandypadhyay will discuss 3D printing of materials for structural and biomedical applications at the annual Anjan Bose Outstanding Researcher Lecture.
The free and public event will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 7, in ETRL 101 on the WSU campus.
Bandyopadhyay, Herman and Brita Lindholm Endowed Chair Professor in the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, received the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture’s outstanding researcher award earlier this year. In the presentation, he will discuss current challenges in the field as well as his research team’s key success stories.
3D Printing is an approach to process parts directly from its computer aided design (CAD) files. The technology is changing the landscapes of current industrial practices. On-demand manufacturing using 3D printing technologies is a new trend that will significantly influence many industries and product design protocols.
An expert in 3D printing and additive manufacturing research, Bandyopadhyay has been with WSU since 1997. He has received many prestigious awards, including National Science Foundation’s CAREER award and the US Office of Naval Research’s Young Investigator Program award. He is a fellow of the American Ceramic Society, American Society for Materials, American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering, American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and National Academy of Inventors (NAI). In 2017, he was elected to the Washington State Academy of Sciences.
The Anjan Bose Outstanding Researcher Award was created by the Executive Leadership Board for the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture along with friends and alumni to honor Anjan Bose for his service to the college as dean. To acknowledge Bose’s support of faculty scholarship and to honor his internationally renowned reputation for research, the award annually recognizes and rewards the top faculty researcher in the college.
