Olusola Adesope, assistant professor at the WSU College of Education, is presenting a Jan. 27 workshop on using concept maps to help students understand coursework.
Concept maps organize ideas through diagrams. They show concepts as nodes and the relationships among the concepts as links. Here’s an example. The maps have many classroom applications. An instructor can ask students to construct concept maps, which requires them first to identify key parts of an idea, then show how those parts are related. Conversely, faculty might create concept maps as a teaching tool. Adesope and his colleagues have published widely on the use of concept maps for learning and he will share some of that research at the workshop.
Adesope’s presentation is 12:10 p.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in CUE 518. Lunch will be served. The presentation will also be live-streamed for those unable to attend in person.
