2015-2016 Financial aid awarding begins!

Current WSU students started receiving their 2015-2016 Financial Aid Awards early last week from the Student Financial Services (SFS) office. This is the earliest ever that WSU students have had financial aid awards in their hands for the upcoming school year. Graduate, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Nursing, and MBA students were the first group of WSU students to receive awards. Awarding for undergraduate students is scheduled to begin in mid-April. Once a student has a Financial Aid Award an email is sent to the student reminding them to view their award on zzusis. Students can then see their award and take any necessary action right on zzusis like accepting their federal loans.

All WSU students will have a 2015-2016 Financial Aid Award before the spring 2015 semester ends as long as Student Financial Services has received the student’s 2015-2016 FAFSA and all requested documentation has been turned in by the student. Please encourage students who have been requested to submit documentation and/or forms to SFS to do so right away to receive the most aid possible for the coming year. There is a priority submission deadline of May 15th.

Financial Aid Estimates

Exciting news!  On March 19, prospective WSU students (new freshmen and transfer) began receiving their online 2015-2016 Financial Aid Estimates.  SFS worked hard to provide these estimates to all potential students and families as early as possible to support student recruitment efforts at all the WSU campuses. What this means for these students is they can now do some preliminary planning for the coming 2015-2016 school year with a Financial Aid Estimate in hand to review.  The Financial Aid Estimate is an estimate of what a student will likely receive on their actual Financial Aid Award.  Please note–a student (or parent) cannot accept, decline, or reduce the loans listed on the Financial Aid Estimate. This can only be done when the student receives a Financial Aid Award.

New and Transfer students can log into the Coug Compass to view their Financial Aid Estimate for the upcoming year.  The Coug Compass is a tool that provides access to several financial related websites to assist new and transfer students in making informed decisions about funding their education at WSU. This estimate will pull information from the 2015-16 FAFSA and generate an accurate snapshot of a student’s expected financial aid for the coming year. Students will need a WSU Network ID and password to login and view the estimate, which is received after applying for WSU Admissions. Once logged in to the Coug Compass, a student can view their online estimate, print a copy if desired, and determine if SFS is asking for additional documentation and/or information to process a financial aid award for them.
