All members of the WSU community are invited to attend Fall 2020 Commencement, a virtual affair that kicks off at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The event will be broadcast in partnership with Stageclip, which enabled students to submit video clips and photos for inclusion in the proceedings.

“We sought to make this event as close to the traditional commencement experience as we reasonably could,” said events coordinator Teri Hansen.

All members of the WSU community, including families of graduates and alumni, are invited to tune in to this year’s event. The 2020 graduates are also welcome to register and join WSU for any future in-person ceremony. The latest information on future events can be found on WSU’s commencement website.

Graduates and their families are encouraged to use #CougGrad on social media during the event.

The ceremony will include remarks from student leaders as well as recognition for this fall’s graduates. More than 750 graduates submitted photos or video for inclusion during the event. That’s a stellar turnout, Hansen said, given that around 850 students graduate each fall. Furthering the sense of tradition is a performance of the Fight Song by the Cougar Marching Band and a quartet of choral students singing the Alma Mater.

The event was made possible by a number of WSU employees in coordination with Stageclip, which hosts virtual graduation events for institutes of higher learning as well as K-12.

Top of mind while planning for the event was the graduates themselves and their families, Hansen said.

“No matter what, the graduates are our number one priority,” she said. “We want them to be recognized and for them to hear their names, regardless of whether it is virtual or in-person.”
