WSU Everett will transition its in-person classes and exams to an online format beginning Monday, March 9 and running through March 13. The decision was made in concert with elected officials and other educational institutions in the Snohomish County region.
WSU Everett has not seen any cases of COVID-19 among its students, faculty or staff. However, members of nearby Everett Community College have been exposed to the illness and Snohomish County has declared a state of emergency due to COVID-19.
WSU Everett faculty
WSU Everett faculty will deliver courses and exams online using the Blackboard Learning Management System, recorded lectures, or synchronous Zoom sessions. Faculty members will conduct their coursework from home or in their individual offices.
Not all course requirements and exams can be completed using an online platform. Program directors will work with faculty to make necessary arrangements for those courses and exams that cannot be delivered online.
WSU Everett staff
WSU Everett and the Everett University Center will remain open during this period and staff members should report as normal. Staff members should consult the Human Resource Services COVID-19 FAQ if they have questions regarding leave and work options.
Supervisors will coordinate with employees who request to work from an alternate location to determine if business operations allow for telework or other arrangements.
Preparations on other campuses
The Provost will be asking all WSU faculty to actively prepare for moving in-person classes to an online format, should the need arise on other campuses. There are a number of resources available to faculty to help make this transition, including:
- Tool Kit for Extended Campus Closure,
- Zoom knowledge base, and
- Academic Outreach and Innovation trainings.
Academic Outreach and Innovation (AOI) is offering trainings three time per day to help faculty learn how to adapt their courses for distance delivery. Training are offered at 8 a.m., noon, and 4 p.m. via Zoom or in Room 102 of the Spark Building on the Pullman campus. Registration is not required.
This training will discuss Panopto recording, enabling of Zoom and Blackboard, uploading of files, embedding of YouTube videos, and the creation of quizzes.
Questions can be directed to aoi.li@wsu.edu.
