Washington Gov. Jay Inslee will be on the Spokane campus Friday to discuss the 2019 legislative session, including the state’s commitment to continued development of the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine.

The Legislature, during its recently completed legislative session, funded WSU’s $14.4 million biennial operating budget request for core funding to support the continuing development of the College of Medicine. It was WSU’s top legislative priority.

The operating budget package included allocations to complete per-year funding for the College of Medicine’s existing cohort of 60 students, while also funding first- and second-year instruction for an additional 20 students. In total, this allows the college to admit 80 students in fall 2019.

The governor’s appearance is set for 1:30-2:15 p.m. in the Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences Building lobby.
