The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights recently issued a Notice of Proposed Rule Making regarding the Washington State University’s processes for responding to sexual violence concerns under Title IX rules.

WSU is carefully reviewing the proposed rule and intends to provide feedback consistent with the values and needs of our communities before the Jan. 28 deadline. The university is committed to preventing sexual violence — including stalking, intimate partner violence and sexual assault ― and to providing an appropriate response when it does occur.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to learn about and review the rule and to provide input. The university is particularly interested in any specific aspects of the rule that you find promising or concerning. You can find the Office for Civil Rights’ (OCR) proposed rule and supporting documents at the following links:

Your feedback is appreciated and will help inform the university’s response to the proposed rule. You can submit this information through WSU’s Title IX website, managed by the Office for Equal Opportunity, or you can email your response to TitleIXCoordinator@wsu.edu through Jan. 15. You also can visit the OCR website for additional information about the rules and to learn how you can provide comments directly.

Regardless of changes in these rules, WSU will continue to provide care and support, and a fair and equitable response to complaints of sexual violence.

If you or someone you know experiences discrimination, sexual harassment or sexual violence, you are encouraged to visit:

If you would like more information about reporting options or resources, please contact the WSU Office for Equal Opportunity at 509‑335‑8288, oeo@wsu.edu, or fill out the online complaint form found on the OEO website.  You will not be required to disclose information specific to your concern unless you feel comfortable doing so, or you may contact the office anonymously.
