WSU contracts with Examity for online proctoring

Washington State University recently selected Examity as its exclusive provider of online proctoring.

The company’s platform is expected to provide a more flexible and secure online testing environment that will include live, recorded and automated proctoring options.

“WSU has always been committed to providing high-quality educational opportunities worldwide,” said Rebecca Van de Vord, WSU Global Campus assistant vice president. “Examity’s comprehensive approach to proctoring reflects our commitment to using technology to create secure, high-quality learning environments for all students.”

WSU currently requires online proctoring for as many as 18,000 exams per year — a number that is expected to grow by 20 percent over the next seven years. The rise of online learning at WSU reflects the expansion of online higher education nationwide: according to the National Center for Education Statistics, more than 6 million college students — nearly one-third of the total student population — took at least one distance learning course in 2016.

“Online learning has tremendous potential to expand educational opportunities for students who have historically been locked out of higher education,” said Michael London, founder and CEO of Examity. “This rapid growth of online programs necessitates an increased focus on quality and integrity.”

Founded in 2013, Examity works with a variety of institutions, including Northeastern University, Texas A&M and Indiana University.
