Dr. Universe: How does land affect the weather?

The surface of the earth is covered in all kinds of landforms — tall mountains, deep valleys, wide canyons and scenic shorelines. A little less than a third of our planet is land and the rest is mostly ocean, said my friend Nic Loyd, a WSU meteorologist.
