PULLMAN, Wash. – Lisa Waite, a 22-year design/marketing veteran with the National Basketball Association, and a WSU alumna, has been named associate director for WSU Athletics’ emerging media/creative services. She began her duties Sept. 4.

“We are excited to welcome Lisa to the Cougar Family,” said Pat Chun, WSU director of athletics. “She has a strong background in professional sports, overseeing brand development and graphic design, while her ties to the Pacific Northwest as a Cougar graduate make her a great addition to our team.”

In her role with Cougar Athletics, Waite will be responsible for the oversight of the Cougars’ brand development, as well as coordinating efforts for the athletic department’s social media, video and creative efforts.

“As an alumni of WSU, it will be tremendous to be back on campus in this capacity,” said Waite. “My husband Gabriel and I could not be more excited to be here to cheer on the student-athletes of this fine university and to watch history unfold.”

Waite spent the past 22 seasons in the National Basketball Association, the first 13 with the Seattle Sonics and the past nine when the Sonics ownership moved the team to Oklahoma City. In both locations she led an in-house design team responsible for marketing the team regionally and nationally through all forms of visual communications. She has been recognized for her work with the Journal Record Beacon Award and multiple Graphic Design USA American In-House design awards.

A 1993 graduate of Washington State with a degree in fine arts with a special emphasis in graphic design and photography, Waite was the founder and president of the Graphic Design Student Association at WSU and a Mortar Board National Honor Society member.
