SPOKANE, Wash. – Owners of private and family forests and range in northeastern Washington can learn to manage and protect their lands at an upcoming “in-the-woods” field day, led by Washington State University Extension Foresters.
The Forest and Range Owners Field Day is 9 a.m.–4:40 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at the JDK Ranch near Valleyford, Wash.
Hosted by experts in forest and range management, the field day shares timely, objective information to meet the needs of landowners of acreages large and small.
Participants can choose from a variety of classes and activities taught by specialists in forest and range health and management, livestock forages, wildlife habitat, weed control, wildfire protection, post-fire restoration, nontimber forest products, technology applications and mapping, and more.
Presenters will be available to answer questions, and participants may sign up for a free walk in the woods with a forester, wildlife biologist or both. Youth activities will be available all day.
This field day has not been held near Spokane for two decades, so regional landowners should not miss this opportunity to learn to plan and preserve their forests. The event also is intended for landowners in Stevens, Pend Orielle, Spokane, Lincoln and Whitman Counties in Washington, and Bonner, Kootenai, Benewah and Latah Counties in Idaho.
Early registration, by Monday, June 18, is $30 per person or $40 for a family of two or more. After that date, the fee is $40 per person, $50 per family. A barbecue lunch will be available for $10 to benefit the Future Farmers of America. Lunch reservations must be received by June 18.
A brochure with detailed information, driving directions and a registration form can be found at http://forestry.wsu.edu, or by contacting your local WSU Extension office.
Sponsors include WSU Extension, DNR Forest Stewardship Program and the Family Forest Foundation.
