Dr. Universe: Why do puffer fish puff up?

Some puffer fish can inflate to the size of a balloon or a beach ball. Wes Dowd, an associate professor in WSU’s School of Biological Sciences has been fascinated by the puffer fish, too, and has found several reasons for this  unusual ability.
