PULLMAN, Wash. – More than 400 students from 31 high schools across the Pacific Northwest will compete May 19 at Washington State University in the Alaska Airlines Imagine Tomorrow competition.

Hosted by WSU’s Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture, the annual problem-solving competition, now in its 11th year, challenges high school students to seek new ways to support the transition to a sustainable future. Learn more at the Imagine Tomorrow website.

Student teams choose among three challenges:

  • The Itron Food, Energy, and Water Challenge.
  • The Boeing Aerospace and Transportation Challenge.
  • The McKinstry Built Environment Challenge.

Participants research the topic and develop innovative technologies, designs or plans to mobilize behavior.

Teams will present their projects to judges and the public 8–11:15 a.m. and 1–3 p.m. Saturday, May 19, in Beasley Coliseum. Nick Smoot, Founder of Innovation Collective and Mountain Man Ventures, will be the keynote speaker for Saturday’s award ceremony, open to the public, at 7:30 p.m. in Beasley Coliseum.

The competition is sponsored by more than 30 corporate, educational and scientific organizations.
