New medical director brings fresh vision for student health

Dr. Bonnie de Vries began work this week as the new medical director of Health & Wellness Services on the Pullman campus.

In this role, Dr. de Vries oversees medical clinic operations, and serves the entire WSU community through outreach and collaboration focused on student health and safety.  She will perform administrative and clinical duties, opening up physician availability for more patient appointments.

Dr. de Vries is a board-certified family physician with a background in quality improvement and practice transformation. She earned her medical degree from Albany Medical College, completed her residency at Maine Medical Center and earned a Master of Science degree in nutrition from Columbia University.

Most recently, Dr. de Vries practiced at Southern Maine Health Care, where she successfully led an innovative Advanced Primary Care initiative to create a culture of team-based care, population health, and physician retention.

Dr. de Vries will share her vision for the future of university health services in a presentation on April 9 from 4-5 p.m. in the Washington building, G41. The presentation will be open to the WSU community.
