SPOKANE, Wash. – Researchers, faculty, administrators, and students from nursing colleges and schools across the west will gather in Spokane April 11-14 for the annual Western Institute of Nursing research conference.
This is the first time the prestigious WIN Conference is being held in Spokane in its more than 50-year history. About 800 people are expected to attend.
The theme of the conference is “Transforming Health through Advances in Nursing Research, Education, and Practice.” WIN includes workshops, research poster and podium presentations, panels and symposia.
Dean Joyce Griffin-Sobel, chair of the 2018 WIN host committee, said, “We’re so honored to have WIN and the west’s top nurse scientists in Spokane. This research conference is more important than ever. Our health care systems increasingly understand and embrace the role the nursing profession can play in public health, primary care, and health equity. WIN helps us continue to advance the profession and practice of nursing.”
Faculty and students from the WSU College of Nursing will present research at the conference. Just a few of the topics to be presented there are:
- “Benefits and adverse effects of cannabis use among adults with persistent pain,” by Teresa Bigand.
- “Identifying postpartum depression in parents at routine well-child checks,” by Annie Bixler.
- “Conceptual frameworks for clinicians working with smart homes,” by Roschelle Fritz.
- “Self-foot care practices among Type II diabetes patients with diabetic foot ulcers,” by David Oni.
“With its focus on patient care, nursing research continues to move the field forward by providing innovative ways to improve health care,” said Celestina Barbosa-Leiker, associate dean of research at the WSU College of Nursing. “Dissemination of this research is key. We are honored to have our nursing colleagues join us here in Spokane and we look forward to hearing about new and exciting research.”
