Washington State Poet Laureate Tod Marshall will host a question-and-answer session from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, during a Pullman campus event that also features opportunities for participants to write their own poems.

The free event, called Ask a Poet / Write a Poem, is open to the community and will be at the Bundy Reading Room in Avery Hall. Participants will learn about poetry and about Marshall’s experience as the state’s official Poet Laureate while also having the opportunity to write a poem. Among other things, he’ll share a favorite writing prompt.

Marshall, a professor at Gonzaga University, is serving as the poet laureate for the 2016-2018 term. He is the author most recently of Bugle (2014), which won the Washington State Book Award in 2015. He succeeds poets Elizabeth Austen (2014-2016), Kathleen Flenniken (2012–2014), and Sam Green (2007–2009).

The Pullman visit is sponsored by the WSU Department of English, Humanities Washington and ArtsWA.
