PULLMAN, Wash. – Alaska Airlines has committed three million airline miles to WSU faculty, extension employees, graduate and undergraduate students with travel funding needs as part of the company’s three-year sponsorship of WSU’s Imagine Tomorrow program.
To qualify for the miles, applicants must be traveling to, or bringing someone to campus, for a reason related to the categories highlighted in the Alaska Airlines Imagine Tomorrow Competition.
The competition focus areas are:
- Challenge 1: The Itron Food, Energy, and Water Challenge
- Challenge 2: The Boeing Aerospace and Transportation Challenge
- Challenge 3: The McKinstry Built Environment Challenge
Awarded miles can be used for faculty and students to travel to external conferences, industry events or presentations. They also can be used to bring experts in related fields to campus for lectures or other events. Travel must occur between Feb. 1 and Dec. 31, 2018, for this initial application period, and only one application per individual will be allowed.
Employees and students can apply by filling out the form at the following link and are encouraged to share this opportunity with other faculty and students.
Miles will be distributed by a review committee, and applications will be judged on the following criteria:
- Applicability to at least one of the Imagine Tomorrow categories.
- Demonstrated financial need.
- Impact and reach of the event.
The application period has been extended, the deadline to apply will be 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, The committee plans to announce and contact awardees by Dec. 15, 2017.
