KIRKLAND, Wash. – Megan Braine, clinical pharmacist for Seattle Cancer Care Alliance at Evergreen Health, was named the 2017 Preceptor of the Year by the Washington State University College of Pharmacy.
Braine was surprised with the award Sept. 28, during a special presentation at the clinic where she works in Kirkland, Wash. She was nominated by Angela Armstrong, a fourth-year student pharmacist at WSU.
“What sets Megan apart from other preceptors was her willingness to connect with me,” Armstrong said. “I wasn’t treated as simply another student coming through on rotations, but was welcomed into the pharmacy family.”
Preceptors are an important part of the WSU Doctor of Pharmacy program. They supervise, teach and mentor student pharmacists in their final year of pharmacy school.
The Preceptor of the Year Award is given annually to a WSU pharmacy preceptor for outstanding contributions to the educational development of future pharmacists by demonstrating high standards of professionalism, ethics and clinical practice within the experiential training environment.
“Megan embodies the values that this award recognizes, all in support of providing the very best care to our patients, while modeling the delivery of an excellent clinical pharmacy experience for her students,” said Rick LaFrance, pharmacy manager at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is a cancer treatment center that is coordinated through a partnership between the University of Washington School of Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Seattle Children’s Hospital. Braine works in the General Hematology/Oncology Clinic, which is an ambulatory care clinic for adult cancer patients with various types of cancer. Patient care provided by clinical oncology pharmacists includes chemotherapy, consultation and follow-up.
