Future City Competition logoPULLMAN, Wash. – Teams are forming for the regional Future City Competition for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students from Washington, Idaho and Montana.

The event, set for Saturday, Jan. 13, is hosted by Washington State University.

Future City Competition is a national program sponsored by the engineering community to promote technological literacy and engineering to middle school students. The program fosters an interest in math, science and engineering through hands-on, real-world applications.

“There is no age too young to begin designing a way to make the world a better place,” said Cara Morton, an instructor in WSU’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the WSU competition coordinator. “This program introduces students to the field of engineering and opens their eyes to the fact that someone designed everything they use in their lives today.”

Teams that win at the WSU competition qualify for sectionals in Seattle. From there, winners go on to nationals in Washington, D.C., where more than $10,000 in prizes will be awarded.

For more information or to sign up to participate, go to https://futurecity.org. The first six teams to register and compete will receive a $100 for their school. Registration closes Nov. 15.
