Oct. 23: Author of ‘Blackballed’ to speak on racism, hostility on campuses

PULLMAN, Wash. – Hostile campus environments and racism will be the topic of a speech by Lawrence Ross, the author of “Blackballed: The Black and White Politics of Race on America’s Campuses,” beginning 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, in the CUB Auditorium.

The presentation, hosted by the National Pan-Hellenic Council at WSU, will be open to the public and will feature a Q & A session and book signing.

Blackballed book coverRoss will speak on hostile campus environments and the lived experiences that students of color encounter as a result of micro and macroaggressions. His latest book, “Blackballed,” published by St. Martins Press, tackles historical and contemporary issues surrounding campus racism.

Ross received a bachelor’s degree in history from UCLA, and a master of fine arts in screenwriting from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.

He also authored “The Divine Nine: The History of African American Fraternities,” and has written for CNN, The Grio, The Root, Ebony.com and USA Today.
