Teach freshmen? Learn how parents support college transitions

“WSU Parents and Their Students: Supporting a Successful Transition” is the topic of a presentation Mon., Oct. 9, at 4 p.m. in CUE 202, presented by Matt Bumpus, associate professor of human development (CAHNRS).

The lecture, geared toward faculty and staff who work with freshmen, is hosted by the First-Year Program (part of WSU Undergraduate Education) as part of its professional-development series. The event is open to everyone.

Bumpus will discuss data from several studies focused on WSU students and their parents, particularly as they navigate the university transition.  Some questions the presentation will address are:

  • What are WSU parents concerned about?
  • What do we know about how parents can help their students without being intrusive? And,
  • How can university personnel partner with parents in the process of supporting students’ well-being?
