Did you know the cider apple research program was started at WSU Mount Vernon NWREC in 1979?
It began with the planting of 2-4 trees each of 6 cider apple varieties. Today we have more than 65 varieties in our research orchards.
Washington state is at the leading edge of the cider revolution that is sweeping the nation—both in production and consumption. With upwards of 30 cideries, Washington boasts the most in the United States.
