Group Health acquisition

Mullaney led the acquisition and integration of Group Health Cooperative and its subsidiaries. Kaiser Permanente officially acquired Group Health in February. Washington marks Kaiser Permanente’s eighth coverage region.

From hospital administrator to president

Prior to the acquisition, Mullaney served as chief operating officer for Kaiser Permanente’s northwest region. From 2013 to 2015, she served as vice president of its hospital operations in Oregon and Washington, where she was accountable for two hospitals and their networks and ambulatory surgery centers.

Mullaney began her career at Kaiser Permanente in 2008 as a hospital administrator at the Sunnyside Medical Center near Portland, Ore. In 2009, she oversaw expansion of the facility and the opening of the Kaiser Permanente Center for Heart and Vascular Care, which has scored in the top 12-15 percent of all U.S. heart centers and has earned a three-star rating — the highest possible — for quality from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. The hospital has continued to receive this rating each year.

Mullaney also oversaw the opening of Kaiser Permanente Westside Medical Center in 2013, one of its two hospitals in Oregon. The facility is the organization’s first to earn Gold LEED certification for energy efficiency and environmentally friendly design.

She earned a master’s degree in health care policy and management from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Connecticut State University. She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and represents Kaiser Permanente at the International Federation of Health Plans’ Executive Development Programme, comprised of global health care leaders.
