High school students compete in sustainability challenge

PULLMAN, Wash. – More than 400 students from 30 high schools will compete at Washington State University Saturday in the Alaska Airlines Imagine Tomorrow competition.

 

Hosted by WSU’s Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture, the annual problem-solving competition challenges high school students to seek new ways to support the transition to a sustainable future.

Student teams choose among four challenges: The Itron food, energy and water challenge, the Boeing aerospace challenge, the McKinstry built environment challenge or the biofuels challenge. They research the topic and develop innovative technologies, designs or plans to mobilize behavior.

 

Teams will present their projects to judges and the public 8-11:15 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 20, in Beasley Coliseum. J. Thomas Ranken, President and CEO of the CleanTech Alliance, will be the keynote speaker for Saturday’s award ceremony, open to the public, at 7:30 p.m. in Beasley Coliseum.

 

The competition is sponsored by more than 30 corporate, educational and scientific organizations.
