PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State University will provide a Spanish-speaking orientation program for new students and their families on Saturday and Sunday, May 20-21, on the Pullman campus.
Celebrating its tenth year, La Bienvenida will include a campus tour, financial aid workshops, a resource fair, meals in a dining center and an overview of living options.
Marcela Pattinson, program organizer and assistant director for the Office of Multicultural Student Services, said a highlight of the program every year is when parents get to meet Spanish-speaking WSU faculty and staff, as well as parents of current WSU students.
“Parents that have attended this program before have learned their children will be well taken care of by their new WSU family,” said Pattinson. “Not only do the parents develop a strong network among Spanish-speaking faculty and staff on campus, but they form strong bonds with other families as well.”
New to the itinerary this year is La Noche Cultural, a Saturday evening event that will allow visitors, as well as faculty and staff, an opportunity to showcase their talents.
Pattinson said the program is very beneficial in helping to ensure a smooth transition for these students, most of which are first to attend college in their families.
