PULLMAN, Wash. – Cary Nelson, former president of the American Association of University Professors, 2006-2012, will give two presentations on the WSU Pullman campus on May 1 and May 2.
The first, “An AAUP Chapter Can Transform your Campus,” will be held 12:30-2:00 p.m. Monday, May 1, in the Bundy Reading Room, Avery Hall.
The second, “In the Corporate Pocket: When Profit and Secrecy Control University Research,” will be held 3-4 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, Honors Hall Lounge.
Nelson is a professor emeritus of English and the Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
He has published or edited more than 25 books, including “No University Is an Island: Saving Academic Freedom” and “Recommended Principles to Guide Academy-Industry Relationships.” He also has written about the oil and gas industry funded research or “frackedemia”.
His visit is sponsored by the Office of the President, the Department of English, Cultural Studies and Social Thought in Education doctoral program, and the College of Education.
