PULLMAN, Wash. – Paul Whitney, who has nearly 30 years of experience at Washington State University, has been named associate vice president for the university’s Office of International Programs.
Whitney earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from St. Mary’s University (Texas), a master’s in developmental psychology at the University of New Orleans, and his Ph.D. from the University of Kansas.
Whitney came to WSU in 1987 as an assistant professor and became a professor in 1998, a title he still holds. He was named chair for the Department of Psychology in July, 2000
In August, 2005, he became the associate dean for research in the then College of Liberal Arts. Beginning August 2008, he served a six-month stint as the interim dean before taking on the role of senior associate dean for the college. He served in that capacity until July 2012, when he accepted his most recent position as senior associate dean for research and graduate education in the College of Arts & Sciences.
“Paul’s multidisciplinary background and commitment to making WSU a powerhouse international research institution is the exact recipe for greatness at our university,” said Asif Chaudhry, vice president for International Programs. “He is well connected throughout all colleges and campuses in the WSU system.”
Whitney will begin his position with International Programs on May 1.
