PULLMAN, Wash. — The Society of Professional Journalists has named Washington State University’s student newspaper the Best All-Around Daily Student Newspaper in Region 10.
The Daily Evergreen also won Mark of Excellence Awards for Nick Sandifer’s editorial cartooning and a photo illustration by Andrew Lang. Staff members took finalist slots in breaking news reporting, general news photography, editorial writing and general column writing.
SPJ’s Region 10 includes Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Alaska. Entries are judged by journalism professionals, and winners participate in the SPJ’s national competition.
Multiple WSU students working outside the Evergreen also won SPJ awards for reporting in print, online, television and radio.
This is the fifth time that The Daily Evergreen has won the Best All-Around Daily Student Newspaper Region 10 award. The newspaper has a long list of other regional and national awards, including the 2015 Gold Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, the international student press group’s highest honor awarded to a student publication.
