PULLMAN, Wash. – Matthew Strawn, study director and data manager in the Washington State University Social and Economic Sciences Research Center (SESRC), has been awarded the 2017 John Tarnai Memorial Scholarship by the nationwide Association of Academic Survey Research Organizations.The award provides a scholarship in memory of John Tarnai, former organization president and former faculty member at the WSU SESRC. The honor recognizes an outstanding but relatively new employee with great promise for pursuing a long-term career in survey research.

“Matt aspires to diversify his skills in applied survey research,” wrote Rose Krebill-Prather, assistant director of SESRC, in nominating Strawn. “He wants to innovate new approaches to data collection as the environment for surveys continues to change.”

Strawn has been at the SESRC since 2014. He has brought new ways of managing surveys and data, maintaining quality, and improving data collection, efficiency and design, Krebill-Prather said.
