PULLMAN, Wash. – High-level discussion, innovation and strategy development for communication professionals will be the focus of the 42nd Murrow Symposium at Washington State University on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 4 and 5.

The theme of the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication event, “Cultivating Career Connections,” celebrates new thinking to address challenges and build opportunities and collaboration among students, young professionals and industry leaders.

Tuesday will begin with hands-on experiences: a LinkedIn lab, on-camera skills workshop and newswriting workshop. That evening, the college will induct three alumni – Bob Brunkow, Steve Lutz and Dave Huddleston – into the Murrow Hall of Achievement.

On Wednesday, motivational speaker Anna Centrella-Thayer will open a day of industry experts, speakers, interactive experiences and conversations. Mid-day speaker, Emmy Award-winning CNN anchor and reporter Ana Cabrera, will examine the effects of “fake news” and alternative facts on consumers and the media.

Throughout the day, panelists will explore the communication industry, its challenges, accomplishments and opportunities for development and growth. Prominent media professionals will critique student résumés and offer advice on interviews, career planning and life after college.
