March 2: Contemporary Art Music Gala Concert

PULLMAN, Wash. – Compositions by Washington State University faculty will highlight the free 2017 Festival of Contemporary Art Music Gala Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 2, in Bryan Hall.

Visiting soloist Willis Delony, above, professor of keyboard and jazz at Louisiana State University, will perform with the WSU Symphony Orchestra, directed by Danh Pham, the new “Jazz Concerto for Piano and Orchestra” by Gregory Yasinitsky, WSU Regents professor and director of the School of Music. Met with a standing ovation in January when it was premiered by the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, with Delony as soloist, the concerto blends jazz and classical music.

The program also will include “Wynwood Project,” written for the WSU faculty ensemble Solstice Quintet by WSU professor David Jarvis, and “Stanzas,” written by faculty bassoonist Ryan M. Hare and performed by the WSU Symphony Orchestra.
