Chinook Student Center first floor opens

PULLMAN, Wash. – The first floor of the Chinook Student Center is open, giving Washington State University students and employees access to the Freshëns Fresh Food Studio and Chinook Espresso Bar.

Other first-floor amenities, including lounges and study areas, are accessible via purchase of a Chinook membership.

In March 2015, WSU students voted to raise undergraduate student fees to renovate the former campus bookstore building. Fee-paying undergraduate students enrolled in seven or more credits have CougarCard access to the center while non fee-paying students and employees may purchase Chinook memberships or day/guest passes.

Graduate and part-time students can purchase a semester membership for $98. Employee membership is $278 per year or $126 per semester. For more information, visit http://chinook.wsu.edu.

The ground floor, scheduled to open later this semester, will feature recreation space, a nap zone, all-gender restroom, presentation and music practice rooms and more. The project will conclude with the opening of the basement level, with saunas, a weight room, CrossFit area, all-gender locker room, and men’s and women’s locker rooms.

“Students can study, socialize, eat and exercise all under one roof,” said Jeff Elbracht, University Recreation director of facilities and finance. “The Chinook is an amazing complement to student-centered buildings already on campus. It provides more needed space for students and additional amenities not elsewhere available.”
