WSU logs most participants in Apple Cup challenge

PULLMAN, Wash. – More benefit-eligible employees at Washington State University participated in the fall Apple Cup Fitness Challenge, but University of Washington competitors logged more minutes of activity to win.

There were 711 participants at the two institutions and 533,162 active minutes tracked. WSU had 368 competitors to UW’s 343; considering the number of employees at the universities, the WSU participation rate was considerably higher.

WSU prizes awarded included:

• Top performer Kendra Wilkins-Fontenot, assistant director of Human Resource Services, who tracked 7,456 minutes of activity – or an average of more than 1,490 minutes each week during the five-week challenge.

• Grand prize winner Levi O’Loughlin (pictured at top), biosafety officer in the Office of Research Assurance, whose name was randomly drawn to win Apple Cup tickets after he participated in the challenge for at least three of the five weeks.

• Additional prizes (WSU bling, tickets to other WSU sporting events and more) to employees across the state selected at random by Limeaide, the third-party administrator of the SmartHealth (http://smarthealth.hca.wa.gov) state health insurance wellness platform.
