PULLMAN, Wash. – Eligible low-income students and families have an on-campus location where they can purchase food using their SNAP benefits, thanks to a partnership between Washington State University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

As of this week, The Market on Cougar Way will accept both EBT (electronic benefit transfer) SNAP and EBT Cash in addition to RDA, Cougar CASH and debit/credit cards.

“The Market received SNAP certification because it continually provides fresh staples such as breads and cereals, fruits and vegetables, poultry and fish as well as dairy products,” said Gary Coyle, director of WSU Dining Services. “We are pleased to be a SNAP provider for our local community.”

The Market, located in WSU’s Global Scholars Hall, specializes in items that contribute to a healthy lifestyle and to sustainability. Much of the produce is locally sourced. The store is open 7:30-1 a.m. Monday-Friday and 10:30-1 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
