EVERETT, Wash. – Accurate financial records are essential to a farm business. A two-Saturdays workshop Feb. 11 and 25 will include information from experts about how to set up and maintain a farm money system.
Farm Recordkeeping for Productivity and Profitability will be 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Feb. 11 and 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at the Washington State University Snohomish County Extension Cougar Auditorium in McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.
Class size is limited and pre-paid registration is required. Cost is $120 per farm and includes lunch for both days and a copy of the book “Fearless Farm Finances.” Meals for additional farm members both days are $30 per person.

Participants will learn about farm-based financial records and bookkeeping from farmers and other experts at Northwest Farm Credit Services and Moss Adams accountants. Three systems will be discussed: paper only, basic computer and paper and a farm-based set of QuickBooks.
“Farmers need to keep good records so that they can predict the future,” said Chris Blanchard, farmer and co-author of “Fearless Farm Finances.” “Our memories tend to trick us into thinking that things were better or worse; good recordkeeping helps to smooth out the variations, facilitating rational decision making.”
The workshop is sponsored and hosted by WSU Snohomish County Extension, USDA Risk Management Agency, Snohomish Conservation District, Farm Services Agency, Northwest Farm Credit Services and Moss Adams LLP.
