PULLMAN, Wash. — Combining the mysticism of Africa with the excitement of a theatrical cirque performance, “Americaʹs Got Talent” finalist Cirque Zuma Zuma will bring non-stop action and African culture to Washington State University for two shows on Saturday, Jan. 28. Performances are at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in Daggy Hall’s Jones Theatre.
Billed as “the ultimate African circus,” Cirque Zuma Zuma leaves audiences of all ages breathless with thrilling feats of acrobatics, contortionism, mime work, clowning, magic and more.
The performance uses lively traditional African dance and music, colorful costumes and dramatic lighting to showcase the cast’s unique talents and amazing African variety arts from Egypt to South Africa.
Reserved seating costs $18 adults, $15 seniors (ages 60+), and $9 non-WSU students and youth. WSU student admission is free with valid ID. A discounted rate of $14 per person is available to groups of eight or more.
Tickets are on sale now at all TicketsWest outlets, including online at TicketsWest.com, by phone at 800-325-SEAT (7328), and in person at WSU’s Beasley Coliseum (open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday) and the Rosauers Supermarket in Lewiston, Idaho. Advance tickets are subject to convenience charges unless purchased at the Beasley Coliseum ticket office. The Daggy Hall box office opens for ticket sales and will-call beginning two hours before each performance.
Cirque Zuma Zuma is a touring arm of African Acrobats International Academy, founded in East Africa with the goal of providing entertainment to tourist hotels. Cirque Zuma Zuma was established in 2005 with a mission of teaching the world about African cultures and has since enjoyed sell-out seasons in Europe and an extended debut in Australia.
African Acrobats International now has training schools in Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya and Las Vegas. In addition to training performers, the organization collects and publishes African opera scripts and historical texts and issues DVDs and videos that promote the traditional arts of Africa.
Parking for both Cirque Zuma Zuma performances will be available without permits or fees in the Daggy Hall parking garage and in the Green 2 lot directly across the street from Daggy Hall.
Community members can save 20 percent on regular WSU Performing Arts admission prices with the purchase of a Spring Series subscription. The series includes five diverse performances, beginning with Cirque Zuma Zuma in January and concluding with Kaha:wi Dance Theatre on April 21.
