kathryn-harrisPULLMAN, Wash. – A Washington State University graduate student has won a national advocacy award, in part for her successful efforts to maintain health insurance subsidies for graduate students nationwide.

Kathryn Harris, vice president of legislative affairs for the WSU Graduate and Professional Student Association, recently was awarded the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Advocacy in Service of Graduate-Professional Students.

As director of legislative affairs for the national association, she spearheaded work that resulted in the federal government reversing an executive guideline to end university health care insurance subsidies to graduate students.
