I-Am-Malala-BookPULLMAN, Wash. – The award-winning documentary, “He Named Me Malala,” will be screened free to the public at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, in Todd 116 at Washington State University as part of the common reading program.

The 2015 film directed by Davis Guggenheim is an intimate portrait of Malala Yousafzai, author of this year’s common reading book for WSU students, “I Am Malala.” She is the youngest recipient of a Nobel Peace Prize, which was awarded for her efforts to speak out for women’s education in her home country of Pakistan. She was shot by the Taliban but survived to carry on her campaign and her own education.

The film portrays events in the book, Yousafzai’s relationship with her father who inspired her passion for education and her life in Birmingham, England, following the attack.

Guggenheim also directed the Academy Award-winning 2006 documentary, “An Inconvenient Truth,” about former U.S. Vice President Al Gore’s campaign to explain global warming.
