Dec. 3: Carols, ‘Messiah’ excerpts for WSU holiday concert

PULLMAN, Wash. – Songs, carols and selections from Handel’s “Messiah” will be performed by Washington State University choirs and orchestra for the annual holiday concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, in Kimbrough Concert Hall.

Tickets will be on sale at the door beginning at 1:15 p.m. Prices are $15 general admission, $10 students and seniors 60 and over, and free for children 12 and under.

The Madrigal Chamber Singers, conducted by Lori Wiest, will open with traditional carols and seasonal poetry including “Gaudete” by Brian Kay, an arrangement of “Deck the Hall” by Edwin Fissinger and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”

The Tenor/Bass Choir, directed by Dean Luethi, will present Franz Schubert’s “Sanctus” arranged by Charles H. Davis and “A Christmas Roundelay” by Sally K. Albrecht. The Treble Choir, directed by Luethi, will perform movements from Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols” and the traditional Hebrew song “S’Vivon” arranged by Betty Bertaux.

Concert Choir, conducted by Wiest and accompanied by Frankie Bones, will sing “See Amid the Winter’s Snow” arranged by Dan Forrest and “A Christmas Carol” by Tim Laurio.

The concert will conclude with selections from Handel’s Messiah by the combined choirs, WSU Symphony Orchestra and WSU voice faculty Julie Anne Wieck, Sheila Converse and Brian Carter.
