RICHLAND, Wash. – Washington State University Tri-Cities will be welcomed as home to the 338th chapter of Phi Kappa Phi national honor society at an installation ceremony at noon Thursday, Oct. 20, in the CIC art gallery.
Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for students, faculty, staff and alumni in all areas of study.
To be eligible, an institution must be a regionally accredited four-year college or university with an established reputation of excellence and an expressed commitment to upholding the values of the society.
“Its focus on the quality of the academic experience and hands-on, project-based instruction is evidence of WSU Tri-Cities’ commitment to academic excellence and the Phi Kappa Phi mission,” said Mary Todd, executive director of the society.
Officers elected by the chartering group to serve the new chapter include President Mark Mansperger, President-elect Katherine Banks, Secretary Darlene Scrivner, Treasurer Debbie Nogueras, Public Relations Officer Maegan Murray and Awards and Grants Coordinator Christopher J. Cree.
Phi Kappa Phi inducts approximately 30,000 new members each year. Membership is by invitation to the top 7.5 percent of juniors and 10 percent of seniors and graduate students, along with faculty, professional staff and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
