Deadline Oct. 19 for student MLK contest art, writing

mlk-artPULLMAN, Wash. – Visual art and creative writing by students are being accepted until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, for the Martin Luther King Jr. Art for Social Change Competition.

Selected submissions will be displayed/performed during the Jan. 26 MLK17 Revitalizing the Dream: Art for Social Change exhibit and awards ceremony at Washington State University.

The competition seeks to advance social justice through works that provoke, challenge and inspire.

Work should be submitted in one of these categories:

* Remembering MLK, commemorating the Civil Rights Movement and the legacy of MLK.
* Social Justice In Action, addressing contemporary issues of inequality and injustice at the local, national, and/or global level.
* Community-Building at WSU, fostering an inclusive community specific to WSU.

One winner from each of the categories will be awarded his or her choice of a $250 scholarship or a Bookie gift card.
