WSU asks for patience as parking permits suspended

PULLMAN, Wash. – Parking permit requirements have been suspended on WSU’s Pullman campus and are expected to resume Monday, Aug. 29, as a result of a computer system failure which occurred this week while issuing parking permits to students and employees.

During the suspension period, a parking permit will not be required to park legally on campus in parking permit zones. Parking availability, which is normally controlled by the zone permit system, will undoubtedly be affected by this temporary revision of WSU parking policy. Faculty and staff parking permit holders should be prepared to encounter an unusual pattern of availability which may at times create difficulty finding parking spaces.

“We recognize that the temporary suspension of parking permit requirements is likely to create difficulties for our faculty and staff and we apologize for any problems they may encounter,” said John Shaheen, director of Transportation Services. “We ask for your patience and cooperation over the next couple of weeks as we take steps to return to normal operations.”  Employees and students are encouraged to consider other alternatives to campus if possible during that week.

Online and over-the-counter parking permit sales are expected to resume soon.  Parking patrons are encouraged to visit the Transportation Services website at www.transportation.wsu.edu on August 22. Updated information is expected to be available at that time.

During the permit suspension period, restricted parking areas on campus, including disability spaces, fire zones, and no parking areas will be enforced as usual. Payment will also be required for hourly garage parking.

Additional information and updates including an FAQ will be posted to the WSU Transportation Services website.
