Aug. 27: Field day helps woodland owners care for trees

SNOQUALMIE, Wash. – Forest landowners will build skills for caring for their trees at the Puget Sound Forest Owners Field Day, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at Claremont Forest near Snoqualmie in King County.

The event will include exhibits, equipment dealers and experts teaching hourly workshops on forest health, wildlife, fire prevention, invasive brush, chainsaw use, handheld GPS, edible mushrooms and other topics.

The cost is $25 per person or $35 per couple before Aug. 26 ($35 per person and $45 per couple on the day of the event) and includes lunch. Youths under 18 may attend for free. There is a special student and master gardener rate (call Washington State University Extension Forestry for details at 206-263-1128).

Participants should dress for the weather, wear sturdy footwear and prepare to walk short distances in forested terrain. Parking, restrooms, coffee, refreshments and drinking water are available on site.
