PULLMAN, Wash. – Despite heat and humidity at Georgia’s Lake Lanier, Washington State University crew teams did well at the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA) national championships recently.
In the finals, the women’s lightweight varsity 4+ took second in the nation and the women’s open weight 2x claimed third. WSU placed in other races, as well.
Junior Michael Marelli was named to the West All-Region Team. Seniors Ashley Vu and Sidney Cross were selected to the women’s West Region.
ACRA selects rowers to the regional teams based on 2,000-meter testing scores, crew performance, career racing results, team leadership and coach recommendations.
Among their other incentives, the lightweight women were pulling for coach Giles Dakin-White, who is leaving Cougar Crew to return to England with his family. He joined the WSU program in 2012 to coach the novice men and began coaching the lightweight women in 2014.
