From the provost: Reducing classroom materials costs

from-the-provost-logoPULLMAN, Wash. – The task force on reducing costs of course materials for students expects to submit its report soon to identify challenges and potential solutions for students and faculty.

In the meantime, the task force encourages faculty to consider some steps when making decisions about classroom materials, including:

  • Encouraging publishers to unbundle support materials from texts so they can be purchased separately.
  • Turning in book orders early.
  • Avoiding late changes in texts and materials.
  • Communicating accurately with the Bookie.
  • Considering whether newest editions are necessary.
  • Communicating to which texts are required and which recommended.
  • Putting copies of assigned materials on reserve for students.
