PULLMAN, Wash. – Michael Swan, emeritus professor in crop and soil sciences at Washington State University, is one of 125 national recipients of the President’s Volunteer Service Award from nonprofit organization Winrock International.
Swan contributed approximately 200 hours of service on international assignments for Winrock’s U.S. Agency for International Development-funded Farmer-to-Farmer Program in Mali, West Africa. He worked as a trainer to enhance agricultural curriculum design and delivery techniques and assisted faculties with developing new teaching strategies at four universities.
The award is issued by the U.S. President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation.
Winrock focuses on innovations in agriculture, the environment, clean energy and leadership development. Volunteers work with farmers, businesses, organizations and governments worldwide on short-term assignments; they share experiences and expertise to improve lives.
