SPOKANE, Wash. – Health sciences students will host a free community health and resource fair 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the East Central Community Center as part of Spokane Gives Month.
Students from Washington State University Spokane and Eastern Washington University Spokane will administer free health screenings and will test attendees’ blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol, bone density, body mass index and oxygen levels. The students will offer fitness and health awareness education.
The schools’ mascots – Butch and Swoop – will be on hand.
Part of Spokane Gives Month, an initiative of the City of Spokane, the health fair joins other events to kick off Spokane Gives’ Education Week.
Sponsors include Associated Students of WSU Spokane, EWU Office of Community Engagement, Smith-Barbieri Progressive Fund and WSU Spokane’s Cougs in the Community program.
In 2015, area university students gave more than 15,000 hours of volunteer service during Spokane Gives. Spokane Mayor David Condon has challenged university students to increase their volunteer hours by 20 percent.
