Video: Live-action graphic novel to invade WSU on April 28

By Gail Siegel, WSU Performing Arts

PULLMAN, Wash. – Radio play will meet comic book when “The Intergalactic Nemesis: Target Earth,” the world’s first live-action graphic novel, comes to Washington State University at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in Daggy Hall’s Jones Theatre.

The all-ages story revolves around a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter, her intrepid assistant and a mysterious librarian as they face an impending invasion of sludge monsters from the planet Zygon.

Performing live before the audience, three actors voice the dozens of characters, a Foley artist creates sound effects and a pianist plays a cinematic score as more than 1,250 full-color, high-resolution, hand-drawn comic book panels tell a hilarious adventure story from an enormous movie screen.

Reserved seating costs $16 for adults, $13 for seniors (ages 60+) and $8 for non-WSU students and youth. Admission for WSU students is free with valid ID. A discount on regular adult/senior ticket prices is available to groups of eight or more.

Tickets are on sale at TicketsWest outlets, including online at http://TicketsWest.com, by phone at 800-325-SEAT (7328) and at WSU’s Beasley Coliseum (open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday) and the Rosauers supermarket in Lewiston, Idaho. Free WSU student tickets require university ID and are available in advance only at the Beasley Coliseum ticket office. Same-day tickets will be sold at the Daggy Hall box office beginning two hours before the performance, subject to availability.

Parking will be available without permits or fees in the Daggy Hall parking garage and in the Green 2 lot across the street from Daggy Hall.

“The Intergalactic Nemesis: Target Earth” has been described as “a gee-whizz sci-fi potpourri of Flash Gordon, Star Wars, B-movie monsters and madmen plotting world domination” (Herald Scotland). It has garnered attention from Conan O’Brien and NPR, played a limited run on Broadway and received rave reviews throughout the English-speaking world.

The live-action graphic novel has spawned two sequels and is in the midst of a multi-year international tour from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the New Victory in New York City to more than 100 venues. The adventure continues in the form of podcasts, Web series and more at http://theintergalacticnemesis.com and on Facebook and Twitter.

The production is presented by WSU Performing Arts (http://performingarts.wsu.edu/) with support from Residence Inn by Marriott Pullman.
