PULLMAN, Wash. – Phillip Uribe won the annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition Tuesday afternoon at Washington State University. It is part of the annual Showcase celebration of faculty, staff and student achievement.
Uribe, a neuroscience doctoral student at WSU Vancouver, spoke about “Using Fish to Prevent Hearing Loss.”
“Mr. Uribe made his research relatable and hooked the audience with a fun opening anecdote,” said WSU marketing writer and judge Meredith Metsker.
Participants must present their research in no more than three minutes in a way that non-specialized audiences can understand. WSU colleges and campuses held their own preliminary events, and the six finalists squared off in the universitywide competition, which was administered by the College of Education.
Winners receive travel grants, sponsored by the Office of the Provost. Uribe’s award is $3,000. Second place is $1,500. Third place is $500.
