April-Davis-webSPOKANE, Wash. – An instructor at Washington State University has been selected as the 2016 Emerging Dietetic Leader of the Year by the Washington State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

The award recognizes April Davis for significantly supporting the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the public through demonstrated leadership in legislation, research, education, management and other areas related to the profession.

Davis is an instructor in the Nutrition and Exercise Physiology (NEP) program at WSU’s health sciences campus in Spokane. She is a registered dietitian/nutritionist, a certified dietitian and a clinical exercise physiologist certified by the American College of Sports Medicine.

Before joining NEP as a full-time faculty member, she worked as an oncology dietitian, supporting surgical, medical and radiation oncologists and helping patients manage and prevent treatment side effects while implementing lifestyle changes for improved overall health.

She holds an M.S. in nutrition and exercise physiology and a B.S. in psychology, biological sciences and exercise physiology and metabolism.

The Washington State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is an affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. With over 73,000 members, the academy is the nation’s largest organization of food and nutrition professionals.
